The Lake George Fire burned vast acres including wilderness west of Bend Oregon. This image was taken from Belknap Crater just as the fire threw up a massive mushroom cloud of smoke covering the sky with wind that blew over my camera and tripod. Mt. Washington can be seen through the smoke on the horizon. The lava flow between me and the fire acted as a safety net as I retreated to the McKenzie Highway. Three Sisters Wilderness, August of 2006
